Everyone starts out as beginners, including teachers, so we understand how important it is to feel safe, yet inspired, when you first walk into the yoga room. We want to make this experience a wonderful journey for you so you can develop a solid understanding of how yoga can help you from the start and how to practice safely so you can continue for many years to come.

We highly recommend you scan our schedule page and look for classes labeled "Beginning" if you are completely new to the practice and feel more comfortable in a class specifically designed for new students: Beginning Flow is offered four times a week (Tuesday and Thursday at 7 pm, Saturday at 12:15pm, and Sunday at 11 am).  Once you have at least five classes under your belt, you can also attend Beginning Flow + which is offered two times a week (Monday at 5pm and Wednesday at 5pm).  Non-flow options include: Gentle Flow with Yin on Wednesday at 5:30 pm, Iyengar on Friday at 9:30 am, Resorative Yoga on Sunday at 5pm, . We also offer Open Level classes that beginners are welcome to attend, though these classes tend to move at a faster pace and offer a wider variety of poses for students of all levels. Read up on the different styles of yoga we offer or, better yet, come by and tell us what you are looking for. We will be happy to help you determine the best way to start your journey.

Please arrive at the studio at least 15 minutes before the start of your first class to register and to talk with the teacher about any injuries or concerns you might have. If you have a medical condition, please consult your health-care provider prior to starting yoga. You may print out and sign our registration form if you prefer.

Other tips to help you prepare for a class:

Try not to rush into class; give yourself time to transition to the yoga room without feeling pressured or out-of-breath.

Wear comfortable workout attire. Layers are best as your body temperature will likely change throughout the practice. Be prepared to practice in bare feet.

Bring your own mat and towel.

Please refrain from wearing perfume or cologne in class; yoga really opens up the senses, and even pleasant smells can be overwhelming.

Avoid practicing on a full stomach; if you need to eat beforehand, try to avoid heavy foods.

Drink plenty of water. One of yoga’s many benefits is the flushing out of toxins, but you need water to help this process.

Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither will your yoga practice be. Be patient and loving with yourself and try to focus on the journey.

The first yama (guiding principle) of yoga is ahimsa, or non-harming. This starts with loving kindness to yourself, at all times.

We’re happy you have found us, and look forward to meeting you. See you on the mat!
